Philip Yeo Innovation Fellows Programme

Our one-year programme supports individuals who are aspirational and passionate about making a difference in the world. If you have a project or idea that aligns with our ‘MAD’ spirit in shaping the future, let this programme be your launch pad.

How we support you

To help you kick-start your project by the end of the programme, we offer the following:

Funding
of up to S$20,000

No obligatory financial returns after the fellowship

Mentorship from industry leaders

Receive expert insight and be guided through your successes and failures

Networking opportunities

Connect with like-minded peers within and outside of your industry

At the end of the one-year programme, you are required to:

  • Propose and implement an individual fellowship project that aligns with the MAD spirit
  • Submit a report covering:
    1. Initial expectations and goals at the beginning of the fellowship
    2. Observations and issues encountered during the fellowship
    3. Reflections, learning takeaways, and a review of outcomes at the end of the fellowship
    4. How the fellowship has made a meaningful difference to you and the world around you
The programme is open to:
  • Singapore Citizens, Singapore Permanent Residents, and ASEAN Nationals residing in Singapore who are below the age of 40
  • Individuals who have demonstrated passion, energy, drive, and unconventional thinking
  • Individuals with a MAD project/idea that can make a great positive societal impact—the projects could be in any realm, whether social, education, arts, science, technology, business, or government

Application for the Philip Yeo Innovation Fellows Programme 2024 is now closed. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted by the Programme Office. 

  • One-page “statement of purpose” (as a PDF) addressing the following:
    1. Share with us a compelling narrative about your journey to “Make A Difference, Change Our World”
    2. Share with us examples of your demonstrated “talent, energy, unconventional thinking and contributions to the community and society”.
    3. What are your aspirational goals, and how does this project and the PYI fit into them?
    4. Why is this project important to you, and why do you think it will change the world?
  • Project proposal (as a PDF)
    1. Objective

    3. Timeline with deliverables
    4. Resources required (Monetary / Non-monetary support)
  • Curriculum vitae (as a PDF)
  • Link to an introduction video (in mp4 format) of no more than two minutes. The video is meant to supplement your application and could include the following:
    1. A brief introduction of yourself, your interests and ambitions
    2. What are some things that drive you which did not make it into your application? What was a life-changing moment in your leadership journey?
    3. Use the video to tell us about yourself that we would not be able to see just through the application. Be as creative as you need to be.

Philip Yeo Grant

As part of our initiative to nurture next-generation leaders, we award this grant to entrepreneurially driven students with financial needs who are participating in the NUS Overseas Colleges (NOC) programme. The NOC programme provides students with a unique opportunity to experience the start-up and entrepreneurship culture at partner universities overseas.

Apart from the financial support of up to S$5,000, grantees will be offered networking opportunities and access to PYI exclusive events, through which we hope to embody the ‘Make A Difference, Change Our World’ spirit of Mr Philip Yeo.

How we support you

To cover your overseas living expenses and enrich your experience during the NOC programme, we offer you the following:

Access to exclusive events

As a grant recipient, you are required to:

  • Be a positive ambassador of NUS and show exemplary performance during your NOC stint
  • Be committed to making positive contributions by sharing your intercultural start-up experiences with the NUS community and being actively engaged in start-up events
  • Participate in compulsory networking and outreach events organised by the PYI Programme Office
  • Submit a one-page profile upon acceptance of the award
  • Submit a write-up at the end of the NOC internship

 

Note: If your performance during the NOC programme is deemed unsatisfactory,
NOC reserves the right to withdraw the award and recover the awarded amount.

Your application will be assessed based on your financial status (family household income, etc.) and whether you meet the following criteria:

  • You are a Singapore Citizen, Singapore Permanent Resident or an ASEAN national embarking on the NUS Overseas Colleges (NOC) Programme.
  • You are entrepreneurially driven, passionate, curious, and determined
  • You embody the values and spirit of Mr Philip Yeo

Discoverer Programme

The Discoverer Programme is a new experiential learning initiative to nurture young and impact-driven leaders.

We collaborate with world-class organisations dedicated to addressing the world’s most critical issues. We hope to foster a broader community of changemakers to be involved in projects that will create greater societal impact.
